Installing an eSIM takes about a minute. The golden rule: install on Wi-Fi before your trip, and switch it on when you land.
iPhone (iOS 16+)
- Open Settings → Cellular.
- Tap Add eSIM → Use QR Code.
- Scan the QR code from your Rommy order.
- Label the line ("Rommy Japan", for example) and keep your main SIM as default for calls.
- On arrival: enable the line and turn on Data Roaming — for the Rommy line only.
Android (Pixel, Samsung and others)
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs (Samsung: Connections → SIM manager).
- Tap Add eSIM and scan the QR code.
- On arrival: enable the eSIM and select it as your mobile data SIM.
No camera at hand? Manual entry
Every Rommy order also shows an SM-DP+ address and an activation code. Choose "Enter details manually" during setup and paste both values.
Three mistakes to avoid
- Deleting the eSIM after use "to clean up" — before the trip ends. A deleted eSIM profile usually cannot be reinstalled. Delete only when the plan is fully over.
- Leaving data on your home SIM. Set the travel eSIM as the data line, or your carrier will happily bill roaming.
- Forgetting Data Roaming. On iPhone, the travel eSIM needs Data Roaming enabled to connect abroad. This does not create extra charges on a prepaid plan.
